Your Event Data, Your Control: How Glownet Meets New Global Data Portability Standards

From 2025 onwards, new regulations around the world are reshaping how businesses handle connected device data.

From 2025 onwards, new regulations around the world are reshaping how businesses handle connected device data.

In Europe, the EU Data Act has just come into effect, setting a benchmark for how data generated by connected products must be accessible and portable. Elsewhere, regulators are updating privacy, security, and cloud portability rules for connected devices, payments, and digital platforms.

For event organisers, venues, and technology providers, these laws all point to the same principle: clients should be in control of the data generated by the technology they use.

At Glownet, this principle has been part of our DNA from day one. With the EU Data Act and other global data laws now live, we want to share how our technology and processes already meet, and in many cases exceed, these requirements.

What is changing in data regulation?

Across markets, governments are requiring technology providers to:

  • Give users access to their data in structured, machine-readable formats.

  • Ensure portability so data can move freely to other providers without lock-in.

  • Avoid unfair contract terms that limit a client’s ability to use their own data.

  • Support third-party and lawful requests securely and transparently.

  • Offer cloud portability so infrastructure is not artificially tied to one provider.

The EU Data Act was adopted in November 2023, published in December 2023, and entered into force in January 2024. Its core provisions apply from 12 September 2025, giving businesses time to prepare. At Glownet, we have taken the proactive approach of building these requirements into our technology and contracts from the start.

How Glownet ensures compliance

We have already built compliance into the heart of our products and contracts:

Data access on demand

Clients can export their event data (transactions, wallet balances, redemptions, scans) via CSV or API at any time.

Clear ownership

Our agreements confirm that client data belongs to the client. We keep our insights and IP separate so there is no confusion.

Portability by design

Glownet platforms run on AWS with multi-tenant or dedicated environments, making migration or mirrored hosting straightforward.

Exit and migration support

Upon request, we provide a complete export of client data at the end of an engagement, with optional support for smooth migration.

Secure third-party sharing

If a client asks us to share data with a trusted partner (for example, a sponsor or analytics firm), we can do so securely with audit logs.

Responsible handling of authority requests

In rare cases where regulators or public bodies request data, we disclose only what is legally required and notify clients wherever possible.

Why it matters for your events

For organisers, this means:

  • Transparency: you always know what data is collected and how to access it.

  • Flexibility: you can migrate data or integrate with other platforms without barriers.

  • Security: all data flows are logged, safeguarded, and aligned with global privacy laws including the EU Data Act.

  • Trust: you can confidently show sponsors, venues, and regulators that your event operates at the highest standard of compliance.

Looking Ahead:

The regulatory landscape is changing fast, with the EU Data Act leading the way, but Glownet clients do not need to worry. Our platforms are already built with compliance, portability, and client empowerment at their core. As new data laws emerge globally, we will continue to stay ahead so you can focus on delivering unforgettable event experiences.
