Your Event Data, Your Control: How Glownet Meets New Global Data Portability Standards
From 2025 onwards, new regulations around the world are reshaping how businesses handle connected device data.
In Europe, the EU Data Act has just come into effect, setting a benchmark for how data generated by connected products must be accessible and portable. Elsewhere, regulators are updating privacy, security, and cloud portability rules for connected devices, payments, and digital platforms.
For event organisers, venues, and technology providers, these laws all point to the same principle: clients should be in control of the data generated by the technology they use.
At Glownet, this principle has been part of our DNA from day one. With the EU Data Act and other global data laws now live, we want to share how our technology and processes already meet, and in many cases exceed, these requirements.
What is changing in data regulation?
Across markets, governments are requiring technology providers to:

The EU Data Act was adopted in November 2023, published in December 2023, and entered into force in January 2024. Its core provisions apply from 12 September 2025, giving businesses time to prepare. If a client asks us to share data with a trusted partner (for example, a sponsor or analytics firm), we can do so securely with audit logs.
Responsible handling of authority requests
In rare cases where regulators or public bodies request data, we disclose only what is legally required and notify clients wherever possible.
